0800 043 6644Originally a Dave Thomas nine hole course, Mar Menor was transformed into an 18 hole championship test by none other than the great Jack Nicklaus and now it offers golfers travelling to Spain for their golf breaks a challenging and enjoyable test of golf not matter their ability. The lush Mediterranean landscape on which the course is built features endless numbers of palm trees, native grasses and flowering shrubs which, when combined with the ever present water and well places waste and greenside bunkers, offer a good challenge for all.

La Torre, designed by the great Jack Nicklaus, is similar in style to the famous resort courses of Florida and as such players must safely negotiate vast swathes of sand and the ever present threat of water hazards lurking at the edge of the fairways and around the slick and true putting surfaces. Measuring a meagre 5,945 yards from the back tees, La Torre is playable for golfers of all abilities and while talented players and the big hitters may find it to be comparatively short, the strategy and precision required from the back tees still poses questions of any golfers skill.

Set against the backdrop of the Murcian Mountains, El Valle is another of the region's courses that were conceived by the great Jack Nicklaus. Like the nearby La Torre Course, El Valle is a resort course very much in the American mould. Playing 6,739 yards from the tips, El Valle is not overly long by modern standards but subtle strategic elements will present a challenge to golfers of all abilities. Taking advantage of its desert setting, El Valle features plenty of waste bunkers as well as naturally existing rock-outcroppings and ridges, not to mention the great expanses of water that place a real emphasis on accuracy both from the tee and while approaching the greens.

Measuring a manageable 6,416 yards from the back tees; Hacienda Riquelme offers a different challenge to that of the other courses found on the Nicklaus Golf Trail. Generous fairways weave their way in and around olive trees, wild flower meadows and a number of imposing and intimidating lakes. Undulating greens and outstanding bunkering add to the challenge that, thanks to a number of different tee positions, can be enjoyed by golfers of all shapes and sizes.

Alhama is one of the longest golf courses to be found on the Nicklaus Golf Trail and as such can provide a serious challenge to golfers of all abilities and experience levels. Measuring a little over 7,500 yards from the tips, Alhama certainly has the length to challenge the bombers but it is not all about power around this well conceived layout. Noticeable changes in elevation can make club selection tricky while small greens, water hazards and sneakily positioned bunkers place an emphasis on accuracy and shot-making; two trademarks that The Golden Bear was well known for in his playing days.

Measuring 6,498 yards from the back tees, Saurines de la Torre is not overly long by modern standards but long enough to challenge the longer hitters. This spectacular desert course features perfectly manicured fairways that weave their way between sand dunes but interestingly that is where the sand on the course stops. There are no bunkers to speak of but the giant 6 acre lake that runs along the length of the 18th hole means concentration is required from start to finish in order to score well around here.

We stayed in Self catering apartment (but ate breakfast in the hotel). We were very pleased with all aspects. There were maintenance issues with our apartment but they were dealt with effectively. Breakfast was excellent.
room ok long walk to hotel.Only 1 bar open so long wsit for drinks. Breakfast was terrible always cold often bits run out 2 out of 4 days no coffee
We stayed in the self catering apartments just a short walk from the hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful. They went above and beyond to make our short stay as good as possible.
Gone shabby now will be looking elsewhere next time. Booking was not a good experience either
Ideal location of apartment on the ground floor, fully equipped for our needs
The apartments are quite basic but have everything you require for a comfortable stay with no frills.
Biggest let down to this hotel was the breakfast. Even when being there at 7am when they first opened all the cooker food was stone cold. Also we had an issue outside our apartment with a blocked, overflowing sewer drain that was left unattended for more than 3 days
Apartment needs upgrades as very basic and tired.Living furniture needs upgrades .Overall the apartment is looking tired.
if you stay in one of the apartments which we did, then they refuse you entry into the main hotel area for breakfast on some days. the area they offer instead does not offer as much choice, and is poor quality.
Nice hotel but apartments are miles away
Apartment we stayed in was really nice
Large rooms but a little tlc needed on them. Brekkie could be a lot better. Pity the on site course wasn't open and won't be for some time
Used the accommodation many times, now very tired. No breakfast bowls, lacked extra bedding and pillows. Staff not fully briefed on breakfast location, apartment Wi-Fi, golf process and transfer. Unable to get clarity on accommodation extension until the morning we were leaving. Left early instead. Reception not helpful, unhappy pushing problems away, rather than taking ownership. Not very impressed considering golf course closed. Unfortunately we will not be visiting again. Courses at Saurines & Hacienda excellent with great service. 👏
The apartment was good and spacious. A buggy to transport luggage & clubs would help because it's quite a treck between reception and the apartment.
never stayed at hotel stayed at residences and not value for money and a disappointing time at mar menor for the money we paid over £4,000 pounds.
The Residences are an ideal base for golfers, great value for money, just a little disappointing for those who want to eat in as there were very limited pots and pans ,the breakfast at the hotel was very poor ,eggs, bacon , sausages and scrambled egg always Luke warm or cold , the hot water urn was at best tepid , poor selection of basic tea bags , the bread and croissants always seemed dry.
Having stayed at Mar Menor many times the only disappointment was the food. The Italian restaurant was very good, however the bbq restaurant was only open on the weekend and the breakfast in a cramped space which was uncomfortable for guests and staff.
we stayed in the residencies rather than the main hotel. They were clean and comfortable but be aware its a 10 minute walk to all the facilities - the hotel are helpful and allow groups to leave clubs in the hotel overnight should you wish, although many of us didn't. Good bars and restaurants on site or a ten minute walk away just outside the resort, with Los Alcazares and its many bars and restaurants a 10 minute cab ride away. Great value for money, all the courses are within a half hour drive with the very reliable company that did our transfers.
We stayed in a two bedroom apartment looking out on the course but a 5 min drive from hotel . Was very clean and spacious! Breakfast was very good with plenty on offer ?
Hotel staff very helpful and polite. Hotel very clean and impressive. Residences are perfect for 4 with all self catering facilities you need. Excellent restaurants and bars just outside the resort entrance in particular the Shamrock Lounge. The food and service was phenomenal, always packed so book
We were disappointed that we had an apartment with no sun despite the hotel being quiet. When we arrived we had been told that the company had not paid our bill. We had to phone Yourgolftravel ourselves to ask them to pay. We had an issue with the paperwork which said room only not breakfast included. We contacted the company four times before our departure but kept being sent the same paperwork until the day we arrived. The hotel questioned us as to why we were asking for breakfast as it wasn’t on the original paperwork ( this is why we kept asking for it to be changed). We were given only one key and questioned this as the paper they give you says you will be given two keys. When we queried it we were told they only give out one now. When we checked out we were asked where the second key was. We explained we had queried it and were told they only give out one. The lady assured me they always give out two! We felt on each occasion we visited reception that we were being a nuisance and trying to get away with things. This is our third visit to Mar Menor and we have never had any problems and the staff have always been very helpful. Not a really positive experience this year.
The stay in the residences was great, a comfortable 2 bed/2 bath apartment with a great view overlooking the golf course.
As always we stayed in the “Residences” which are apartments across the practice facilities from the hotel. The apartments are perfect with two twin bedrooms and two bathrooms as well as a lounge and kitchen with a good big fridge for the beer! The breakfasts were served in the hotel which is really nice but although the quality of food was fine the “hot” food was every only lukewarm!
Apartment was spacious for 2 persons, ckean and had a nice balcony area to relax. Cooking facilities were adequate but didn't really use much.
Getting a 2 bed apartment was a great bonus lots of space. The whole place was a lot bigger than I imagined and thought all the facilities were brilliant. Could do with a few more staff, had long waits for drinks after playing. Not near any larger towns for night out but the bars that were there were good.
This is our 3rd year staying at Mar Menor, it has everything you need, onside bars and restaurants and also just outside the resort is a strip with bars and restaurants, all within walking distance.
Great value for Money. Much of the resort was closed with only 1 or 2 of the on-site restaurants open each evening. Food very good and the residences apartment fitted our needs just fine. Basic but all you would need on a short trip.
Generally fine, however having allowed us to take breakfast on first 2 days in the main buffet breakfast area, we were put into a much smaller area on 4th day -- being told we could only eat in main area if we were resident in the hotel !! -- and wherein the breakfast choice was much more limited, most of what should have been hot food was cold and thus decidedly unpleasant. On 5th ( last ) day some of my group, who arrived before me were again told to go to the smaller area and were again faced with cold bacon, cold fried eggs, no omlettes, no melon or pineapple, etc., so I made it very clear that we were going to use the main buffet area and simply did so !! But that shouldn't have happened.
The apartments are well equipped and suit our group of 20 well. There are plenty of pools dotted around and the location is very good, they are great value for money.
Two bed apartment was basic but comfortable. The TV was not really watchable and the heating controls didn’t seem to function correctly. I was surprised that only one bath towel per room was supplied and apartment not serviced during five night stay
Very comfortable
Stayed in the Residences apartments
Accommodation was fine staff are not very helpful could of shoen us to our apartments but didn't club house staff not interested in helping us store cases while playing golf on last day. Very slow service.
A seamless experience from collection at the airport to drop off at the end of our stay, the facilities and resort were excellent and great value also. I would highly recommend.
We were in the residence apartments. Really nice but quite a walk from the main hotel and all the bars and restaurants
Residences were fine, in need of some investment, but clean. Comfortable, but what’s with the squeaky beds? Good value tho and very friendly staff. Not all restaurants were open even at the end of May - why?
Brilliant hotel and great value for Money
We stayed in The Residences. You need a car if you have a full set of clubs as some of the Residences are quite a long walk from the Clubhouse and there is nowhere to store your clubs at the Clubhouse. Buggies are in short supply (you need to prebook) and you are not permitted to take the buggies to The Residences to drop off your clubs. Our apartment was in a dark corner so didn’t get any sun on our balcony. We had access to a small pool, but it was very noisy. The Special Clubhouse breakfast for golfers staying at the Residences was awful unless you want sausages and beans for breakfast. The bars and restaurants on site were very disappointing - Irish Pub, frozen food - yuk. Not at all authentic. But the golf was excellent, the staff were lovely. I think if you stayed in the hotel (which looked lovely) and had a car, so you could visit the lagoon or La Manga, it would be a lovely place to stay. Staying in the Residences without a car was awful. We took a taxi out to dinner in Mar Menor a couple of times to lovely restaurants but taxis are expensive. You need a car to enjoy this resort. Staying in the Residences is more suited to groups of younger golfers.
we felt we were not looked after by YGT well at all. Its a venue you need transport and we were not told that. Our apartment was a good 20 mins walk from the facilities and had nothing in it no tea or coffee even water. The first one we had was a double bed so had to get moved. Had to re arrange our golf as it had not been booked to fit in with the shuttle bus. The golf reception were very helpful. The place is five star but you felt treated as second class be pushed into a ball room for breakfast. Didnt play El Valle but played Mar Menor it self ,that was nice As I have said felt we were mislead on this one as its not the sort of break for us, may be we were misunderstood but very unhappy all round.
Over all very enjoyable
We arrived late evening with a long trip ahead to our apartments but the staff kindly got us a lift which brought us there and back to the bars, this set the tone and we certainly had a ball the rest of our trip. Excellent rooms highly recommended.
Great quality apartments, check in at Hotel and have to walk and locate your apartment which being a large complex was a bit confusing.would benefit if a staff member could assist with this.10 minute taxi journey to the resort of Los Alcazares. Overall great value for money and would return
Great resort, staff and facilities. Can be a little bunched up at times on the golf course, but not too bad. 5 minutes taxi drive to local town Los Alcázares, where the livelier bars, pubs and clubs are if you need an escape.
studio apartment, has all the facility you would need
Great stay comfortable rooms
Everything you could need but the Golf Bar has changed and much slower than last year - at times waited 20 minutes to get served !!

Much better experience than hacienda de Álamo the day before Couldn’t get much worse than that horrible course
We enjoyed our round at Mar Menor. Even though the course was busy, we were hardly held up. It is a more enjoyable course to play than Hacienda.
only 9 holes open for some reason. play odd set off front and back holes to make 9 so sat nav not working. Deep bunkers all in front of greens msking it very hard as greens not very acceptive.
Sadly there is only 9 holes to play here (Oct 2023) so had to play them twice. Everything else was spot on.
The only issue with this course was the lack of clubhouse. There is a Spar to buy drinks and snacks post round, so it’s not the end of the world. The course suited my average handicap.
Only the front 9 holes open and they were in a poor state
1st an 2nd rounds were played at a reasonable pace. Last round very slow and frustrating despite complaining to the Marshall nothing was done and no one was spoken to
Great course and practice facilities. Tight fairways with firm and fast greens. Only let down was there is no club house to enjoy a post round pint or drink of any sort
Hard to rate this course as they were doing lots of work on it and only had 9 holes playable due to 9 greens being ripped out. We were made aware of this before. We all enjoyed the holes that we did play
this golf course is on the decline. It is one to be avoided. On arrival at the hotel the check in receptionist informed us that only 9 holes are playable. it's been like this for almost a year. And the 9 holes that we could play were very average/poor for a spanish golf resort.
It was a great experience and the course was lovely
This course is stunning. I’ve played lots of courses all around the world and this is one of my favourites by far
Decent course, poor greens (no one seems to fix pitch marks), loads of bunkers and water but despite that not bad. Watch out for the acres of sand in front of the 18th...
it rained most of the round but it was ok would not go back
We did enjoy it but it did have challenging par 3s, no harm in that and looking forward to returning.
good with alot of sand, but worth the visit.
