If you're the kind of golfer who likes a challenge, you can't go wrong with a round on a US Open golf course. Thankfully, you're unlikely to have to tackle the likes of Pebble Beach, Pinehurst or the ferocious Bethpage Black in true US Open conditions.
If you choose to follow in the footsteps of your golfing heroes & tee it up on a US Open golf course on your next golf holiday, you'll definitely have to bring your A-game to play to your handicap, especially if you choose to play from the championship tees!
We recommend you tee it forward when you visit one of these golfing giants because courses on the US Open rota are inherently difficult for a variety of reasons; The Pinehurst No.2 Course has its waste areas and upturned saucer-like greens while Pebble Beach is exposed to the elements and features thick rough and dramatic forced carries.
Take a look at more of the US Open golf courses you can play and when you're ready to cowboy up and take on one of the most difficult golf courses in the world give one of our Golf Experts a call on 0800 043 6644.
Perhaps one of the most visually impressive courses in the world and arguably one of country’s most recognised courses, Pebble Beach Golf Links bound to be on every golfer’s bucket list. Having hosted the US Open on no less than 5 separate occasions and a regular stop on the PGA Tour with the AT&T Pro-Am, the game’s greatest players are constantly gracing the dramatic links.
The course itself skirts the jaw dropping, rugged coastline that gifts players unforgettable views of Monterey Bay and the Northern Pacific. Each hole at this stunning course is worthy of a postcard or two but none more so than the par 3, 7th which has you playing downhill towards the green and the Ocean. For those looking for the golfing experience of a lifetime then look no further than Pebble Beach Golf Links.

"Practice your putting before you play here, the slopes and the contour of the greens and are tricky to read. Pebble Beach is a must play for anyone visiting California."

In 1951 and before Great Britain teamed up with the rest of Europe to take on the dominant Team USA, the Ryder Cup was held at the famous Pinehurst Resort. Such as the times, Sam Snead led the US to a overwhelming victory with GB only picking up 2 and a half points.
The No 2 course at Pinehurst has since hosted three US Opens and is considered as the toughest to have ever done so. The course tests even the most elite golfers and will have you relishing the prospect of taking on the layout where so many pros have played.

"Pinehurst is known for its crowned, undulating greens, which are some of the most difficult and widely celebrated in the world, it is clear that Pinehurst No. 2’s main design features were born out of Scottish influence, with Ross having cut his teeth at Royal Dornoch before he left for America."

Any golfing fan will know this course not only for the Farmers Insurance Open which it hosts annually but also for the 2008 US Open. Need I describe the events that occured on 16th June 2008… the South Course… Broken leg… Tiger Woods… ring a bell yet? Yes that’s right Tiger won what is now his most recent major on just one leg. Now to the course.
The layout itself is rather unique as despite being a links course it features ‘normal bunkers’, the occasional grouping of pines, pristine fairways and perfectly manicured greens. Golfers are treated to stunning vista of the Pacific Ocean with arguably the best coming from the short 3rd hole. Boasting year round sun, 18 glorious golf holes and magnificent views there aren’t many better places to play then the South Course at Torrey Pines.

Having hosted the 2002 and 2009 US Open - the Bethpage Black Course is no stranger to big tournaments. In 2025, major competition returns to this glorious New York golf course as the best players from Europe and America will compete for the coveted Ryder Cup.
The narrow fairways and punishing rough will test every facet of the professionals game with those willing to be more reserved off the tee reaping the rewards and gaining the much sought after point from their match.

When you think of golf in Wisconsin most would think of Whistling Straits as being the marquee course in the region but Erin Hills has quickly developed a strong reputation as a top class layout and is now ranked within the Top 10 public courses in the entire US.
Coming in at over 7,700 yards from the tips it can seem a monster but it is also accessible to golfers of all abilities thanks to five separate tee positions. Immaculate fairways are lined with signature oaks, maples, tamaracks and hickories which also accent the course without inhibiting play or obstructing the stunning vistas.

Chambers Bay provides golfers with a unique test of links golf in the Washington State. Many consider this Robert Trent Jones Jr. layout to be the architet's best design. The course is enjoyable for golfers of all abilities, whilst still having the potential to test the very best in professional golf.
When playing Chambers Bay be prepared to stop for pictures as the course meanders along the shores of Puget Sound in an area of stunning natural beauty. Dramatic elevation changes are common here from the 14th requiring a carry of 320 yards, from the back tees, to the 13th that drops from the tee down to the water reminiscent of the 7th at Pebble Beach.
