Lovely course but the fairways are extremely tight and the rough is very thick. We lost heaps of golf balls!! A member we spoke to before we hit off suggested that if we can't see our ball from the tee to hit a provisional ... he was 100% right! TBH we found this course set up to be too difficult for visitors who don't know their way around - even 1 yard off the fairway often resulted in a lost ball. A group of visitors behind us actually gave up after the front 9! Also the office or the pro shop stuffed up with our booking and didn't have electric push trollies for us to use - not the end of the world but a bit annoying and harder for me.
Wallasey was most recently used for final qualifying for the 2006 Open Championship at Hoylake, and is reputed to be one the finest courses in the area. It is also the place where Dr. Frank Stableford devised the popular scoring system that still bears his name.
